St. Edward JV Basketball Secures Nail-Biting Victory Over Lutheran West

In a thrilling regular season encounter on January 10, 2025, at St. Edward High School, the Eagles of St. Edward JV Basketball team edged out the Lutheran West Longhorns by a final score of 45-40. The game was closely contested with St. Edward managing a slight lead by halftime at 21-15, setting the stage for a dramatic second half. Lutheran West closed the half on a 7 -2 run. Freshman Dustin Hess was a standout player, scoring a pivotal 13 points, including a crucial three-pointer at the end of the first quarter that set the tone for the Eagles. Owen McGurer contributed significantly with 12 points, making essential free throws that sealed the victory in the closing minutes of the third and fourth quarters. Mike Williams and Rowan Kelley also delivered, adding 7 and 5 points, respectively, to the team's total. Adam Johnson, coming off the bench, provided key assists and rebounds, which were critical in maintaining the lead. "Proud of how the team played hard and fought till the end. I thought our team communication was excellent today even though Lutheran West kept the game close. It's always nice to win in front of a good crowd of fans," said Dustin Hess about the team's performance. With this win, the Eagles improve their season record to 9-2. They look to continue their winning momentum as they face Fairview next on January 11, 2025, again at St. Edward High School.
