St. Edward Freshman Gold Secures Victory Against Gilmour Academy in a Holy Cross Contest

St. Edward High School's Freshman Gold team clinched a convincing 64-48 victory over the Gilmour Academy Lancers on January 12, 2025. The Eagles showcased a powerful performance on their home court, extending their season record to an impressive 7-1. From the outset, St. Edward dominated the court with strategic and aggressive play. By halftime, the Eagles had built a substantial lead with a score of 31-14, capitalizing on their defensive strengths and sharp shooting. Key player contributions came from Matt McKee, who led scoring with 17 points, followed by Ben Zbawiony with 11 points. Additionally, the Gold Eagles outscored the Lancers 19 - 4 in the second quarter to secure control of the game. Hudson Grant hit two critical three-pointers near the end of the second quarter, energizing the team to a lead that they maintained throughout the game. Assistant Coach PJ Flannery expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, remarking, "The guys played great today. They are overcoming their offensive struggles game by game. This is a quality game against a good program. I'm glad we came out focused given that this game was scheduled just recently. We still want to challenge the boys to put together 4 quarters of complete basketball." This sentiment captures the team's continuous effort to enhance their game as the season progresses. The Gold Eagles are set to face St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish next on January 14, 2025, at the home of LeBron James: St. Vincent-St. Mary.
