HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio - St. Edward scored touchdowns on each of its first three possessions and controlled the line of scrimmage throughout a 48-21 victory over Huber Heights Wayne on Friday night at Huber Heights High School. The Eagles led 20-0 after the first quarter and carried a 41-13 advantage into halftime.
Ronnie Neal capped a five-play opening drive with a 21-yard touchdown run, giving St. Edward the lead less than two minutes into the game. The Eagles followed with touchdown drives of 69 and 72 yards, scoring again with 41 seconds left in the first quarter. St. Edward's offensive line established control on the opening possession and continued creating room for Neal and Colin Tedesco throughout the game.
After Huber Heights Wayne cut the lead to 20-7 early in the second quarter, St. Edward answered with touchdown drives of 76 and 37 yards. Huber Heights Wayne produced a 97-yard kickoff-return touchdown to make it 34-13, but the Eagles responded again, covering 70 yards in seven plays to score with 39 seconds remaining before halftime. An eight-play, 84-yard touchdown drive in the third quarter gave St. Edward its largest lead at 48-13.
Langston Lucas completed 9 of 14 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 64 yards and two scores, accounting for 232 yards of total offense. Ronnie Neal carried 14 times for 131 yards and two touchdowns, while Colin Tedesco added 95 rushing yards and two scores on 10 attempts. Tedesco also made a 21-yard reception to finish with 116 yards from scrimmage. Caleb Hall led the receiving group with four catches for 81 yards and a touchdown.
The Eagles finished with 544 total yards, including 370 on the ground, compared with 255 total yards for Huber Heights Wayne. St. Edward averaged 7.6 yards per rush, recorded 30 first downs and converted 7 of 10 third downs. The defense limited Huber Heights Wayne to 75 rushing yards and produced three sacks.
