Duval Charter Baymeadows won the boys team championship with 190 points and Bradenton Christian captured the girls title with 172 points at the SSAA Track & Field State Championships on Thursday in Lakeland.
The Sunshine State Athletics meet, held April 9 at 3110 US-92 in Lakeland, featured a full championship schedule of running and field events, including distance races, sprints, hurdles, relays, jumps and throws. On the boys side, Duval Charter Baymeadows separated itself from the field with an 81-point margin over runner-up Orlando Science High School, which finished with 109 points. Bradenton Christian placed third in the boys standings at 106, followed by City of Life Christian with 79.
The girls competition was led by Bradenton Christian, which finished comfortably in front with 172 points. Naples Classical took second with 93 points, while Duval Charter Baymeadows finished third with 54. City of Life Christian was close behind in fourth at 52 points, and Sarasota Christian rounded out the top five with 42.
The team scores reflected the depth required to win a championship meet. Duval Charter Baymeadows' boys lineup produced the strongest overall total of the day, while Bradenton Christian's girls team built a decisive advantage in a field that included eight scoring teams. Beyond the title races, the meet also saw Orlando Science High School's boys and Naples Classical's girls post runner-up finishes, with both programs finishing well clear of the middle of the standings.
Rounding out the boys standings were Sarasota Christian with 29 points, Calvary Christian (PtStL) with 22, Halifax Academy with 12 and Naples Classical with one. In the girls standings, Orlando Science High School scored 33 points for sixth, Calvary Christian (PtStL) had 29 for seventh and Halifax Academy finished eighth with 28.
