St. Stephens Episcopal Edges Cambridge Christian by One Stroke at SSAA Golf

LAKELAND, Fla. - St. Stephens Episcopal placed three golfers in the top five and held off a late challenge from Cambridge Christian to win the 2026 SSAA Golf Golf by one stroke Saturday. St. Stephens finished with a team score of 292, narrowly beating Cambridge Christian’s 293.

Cambridge Christian occupied the top two spots on the individual leaderboard, but St. Stephens countered with the depth needed to claim the team championship. Its three top-five finishes provided the foundation for the winning total and proved decisive as Cambridge pushed for the lead late in the match.

Aaron Umholtz delivered the tournament’s defining shot, sinking a 35-foot putt to secure the individual lead and championship. The Cambridge Christian golfer completed the event with a 67, the lowest score in the field.

Benjamin Li gave Cambridge Christian another standout round, shooting a 70 to finish three strokes behind Umholtz. Together, Umholtz and Li combined for a 137, keeping Cambridge within striking distance of the team title through the closing holes.

The championship was decided by the contrast between Cambridge Christian’s two lowest individual rounds and St. Stephens Episcopal’s strength throughout its lineup. With only one stroke separating the teams, every counted score mattered as St. Stephens protected its advantage and prevented Cambridge from moving ahead late.

The tournament began at 1 p.m. EDT in Lakeland under mainly clear skies, with the temperature at 81 degrees and no wind recorded at the start. By the finish, St. Stephens had secured the team trophy at 292, while Umholtz’s long closing putt gave Cambridge Christian the individual championship.
