TAFT, Calif. - Taft College defeated Clovis College 1-0 on Friday, Oct. 9, in Taft, CA, with Ian Menjivar's goal at 28:00 providing the difference. The victory came at home for the Cougars, who protected their narrow advantage through the remainder of the match without conceding an equalizer.
Jacob Cooke-Ruiz supplied the assist on the deciding goal, combining with Ian Menjivar to break the scoreless tie in the first half. Clovis remained within one goal at the break, with the Cougars taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. The finish was the only scoring play for either side.
Goalkeeper Aslan Chong played all 90 minutes and earned the win and a shutout. He was credited with zero saves as the Cougars held Clovis scoreless in both halves. Neither team scored after halftime, leaving Taft to defend its one-goal margin without the cushion of a second goal over the final 45 minutes.
