Taft College Cougars Volleyball Secure Victory in Scrimmage Against LA Mission

College Volleyball is getting ready to gear up for the official season. In the meantime, teams in the 3C2A have been scrimmaging in preparation. There are only a certain amount of scrimmage games allowed prior to the season. Scrimmage games are played without any official scores nor statistics. Taft played ten scrimmage games in neutral area and came out on top winning nine of those matches. In one particular thrilling volleyball scrimmage held at Cuesta College on August 16, 2025, the Taft College Cougars showcased their competitive spirit and teamwork, resulting in a hard-earned victory over LA Mission. The Cougars, represented by their dedicated women's volleyball team, triumphed with a final set score of 25-22. The Cougars displayed a commendable offensive and defensive game. Key moments included a critical serving run by Vienna late in the game, which significantly contributed to the team's surge ahead to secure the win. Jazzy led the team with 4 kills followed closely by Jaz and Havi, each contributing 2 kills. On the defensive side, the team also excelled with Kuu achieving 2 blocks, and both Havi and Keira contributing 1 block each. The digs were notably led by Shyanne who impressively collected 10, supported by Amber with 5 and Vienna with 4. Beyond the basic statistics, some players marked additional achievements. Jazzy and Shyanne each passed at an exceptional rate of 2.5, highlighting their critical role in the team’s ball control. Serving was also a focal point with Kuu and Jazzy each managing an ace, adding to the match's intensity. Reflecting on the team's performance, the coach proudly mentioned, 'I'm very proud of the team for fighting under pressure and working together as a team.' This scrimmage not only highlighted the skills and potential of the Cougars but also set a positive tone as they prepare for their upcoming games. The next challenges await on August 23, 2025, in Santa Rosa, CA, against formidable opponents from Santa Rosa College and Napa Valley College.
