TAFT, Calif. - Taft College (3-2-5) fell 1-0 to College of the Sequoias (3-1-4) on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Sequoias Stadium in Visalia, with Ivan Camargo’s goal at 32:00 providing the difference. The Cougars held Sequoias scoreless after halftime but could not find an equalizer.
The teams remained scoreless until the Giants broke through in the first half. No assist was recorded on the goal, which gave Sequoias a 1-0 advantage heading into the break. Taft entered the second half needing one goal to draw level, with the margin unchanged for the remainder of the match.
The Cougars’ defense prevented Sequoias from extending its lead over the final 45 minutes. At the other end, Sequoias goalkeeper Angel Nieto made two saves and completed all 90 minutes without allowing a goal. Those stops helped preserve the narrow advantage as Taft finished without a goal in either half.
Sequoias received three yellow cards during the second half. Adrian Casillas was cautioned at 66:00, followed by Diego Garcia at 73:00 and Elijah Gutierrez at 83:00. Taft received no yellow or red cards, but the Cougars were unable to turn the closing stretch into a tying goal.
The result left Taft at 1-2-0 in league play, while Sequoias moved to 1-0-1. Camargo’s first-half finish stood as the match’s only goal before an attendance of 50. The Cougars will look to bounce back in their next contest at home on Friday, Oct. 2, at 3:00pm against Merced College.
