Taft College endured a difficult team outing Monday at Conference Tournament No. 3, but freshman Kaylynn Killion delivered the best performance of her young career. Killion shot an 84, her lowest score of the season, to lead the Cougars and provide the team's clear highlight.
Killion, a Frontier High School graduate from Bakersfield, California, set the pace for Taft with a round that showed her continued development at the collegiate level. Her career-best score stood out on a day when the Cougars were unable to produce the consistent results they wanted across the lineup.
Although Taft did not finish with a strong overall team performance, Killion's round offered evidence of the potential within the program. Her 84 established a new individual benchmark and gave the Cougars a score to build around as they move deeper into the conference schedule.
The tournament also gave Taft another opportunity to identify where it must improve. Greater consistency throughout the lineup will be important in future events, but the Cougars believe progress is possible as their golfers gain experience and work to turn that potential into lower scores.
Taft will have a quick turnaround before hosting Conference Tournament No. 4 at noon PDT Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026. Killion will enter the home event looking to build on her season-low round, while the Cougars will seek a stronger team total.
