Killion Shoots 91 as Taft Finishes Behind Reedley and Fresno

Kaylynn Killion shot Taft College’s low round Wednesday, leading the Cougars with a 91 at Conference Tournament No. 2. Taft finished behind Reedley College and Fresno City College, with Reedley claiming a decisive team victory and Fresno edging the Cougars by a few strokes.
Killion set the pace for Taft and finished four strokes ahead of teammate Keaneh Tauause, who recorded a 95. Jenna Rios followed with a 98, giving the Cougars three scores below 100 and placing Taft within striking distance of Fresno in the team standings.
Lydia Hallbrook completed Taft’s scoring with a 117. The Cougars’ four rounds added up to a team total of 401, with the seven-stroke separation between Killion and Rios providing the most consistent portion of the lineup.
Reedley established a comfortable advantage over the field and was not seriously challenged for the tournament victory. The tighter competition involved Fresno and Taft, but Fresno maintained enough of an edge to finish a few strokes ahead of the Cougars. Exact team totals for Reedley and Fresno were not available.
Although Taft could not match Reedley’s winning pace, the Cougars received three sub-100 rounds. Killion’s 91 provided the day’s top individual performance for Taft, while Tauause and Rios stayed close enough to keep the team within a narrow margin of Fresno.
The Cougars return to conference competition on the road Monday, Sept. 21, for Conference Tournament No. 3. The event is scheduled to begin at noon PDT.
