Lady Cougars Fall at Clovis After Two Goals in Each Half

TAFT, Calif. - Taft College fell 4-0 to Clovis College on Friday, Oct. 2, in Clovis, with Arianna Amezcua’s goal in the 29th minute putting the hosts ahead for good. The Cougars conceded twice in each half, while four different Clovis players scored and four others contributed assists.
Taft kept the match scoreless through the opening 28 minutes before Amezcua broke the tie off an assist from Audrey Garcia. The Cougars remained within a goal until the 40th minute, when Lisania Diaz scored with an assist from Briseyda Tovar. That goal sent Taft into halftime facing a 2-0 deficit.
The deficit grew shortly after the restart. Alexandra Pablo-Legaria scored in the 48th minute off Gennie Munoz’s assist to make it 3-0. Emily Cantor added the final goal in the 57th minute, finishing with an assist from Chloe Uyesaka. Clovis’ two second-half goals came within nine minutes of each other.
The Cougars did not concede again over the final 33 minutes, but they were unable to break through at the other end. Marianna Camacho and Milani Gutierrez each played 45 minutes in goal for Clovis without allowing a goal, with Camacho credited with the victory.
Neither team received a yellow or red card. Taft finished without a goal in either half, while Clovis paired its four-goal attack with a combined shutout from its two goalkeepers. The Cougars will look to bounce back in their next contest at home on Friday, Oct. 9, against College of the Sequoias.
