Oxnard's Three-Goal First Half Sends Taft to 3-0 Defeat

OXNARD, Calif. - Oxnard scored three times in the opening 24 minutes and defeated visiting Taft 3-0 on Aug. 28, 2026. Brooke Todd's fifth-minute goal proved decisive, while Oxnard added two more before halftime to take control of the match.
Brooke Todd opened the scoring off an assist from Montserrat Ocampo. Oxnard doubled its advantage in the 20th minute when Andrea Gonzalez converted a pass from Brooke Todd, giving the opening scorer a goal and an assist. Four minutes later, Jennifer Estrada finished a chance created by Andrea Gonzalez to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Cougars responded with a stronger defensive performance after halftime. Taft held Oxnard scoreless throughout the second half, with goalkeeper Liliana Lopez completing all 90 minutes and making six saves. Oxnard put nine shots on goal, but the Cougars did not concede again following the early three-goal stretch.
Taft also generated opportunities at the other end, placing six shots on goal. Oxnard goalkeeper Jazmin Soto saved all six attempts to complete the shutout. Neither team was shown a card during the match.
The opening minutes left the Cougars with too large a deficit to overcome, but the scoreless second half provided a positive response. Liliana Lopez's work in goal and the team's improved defensive organization kept Oxnard from adding to its lead over the final 66 minutes.
