Taft College Sweeps Cuesta 3-0 Behind Efficient Attack

Taft College used a balanced, efficient attack to sweep Cuesta College 3-0 on Friday at Cuesta. The Cougars won 25-12, 25-18 and 25-16 while totaling 49 kills, committing only seven attack errors and hitting .385 for the match.
The Cougars established control with their sharpest offensive set of the match. Taft put down 17 kills without an attack error in the opening set, hitting .531 on the way to a 13-point victory. The fast start gave the Cougars an early advantage they carried through the remainder of the match.
Cuesta offered more resistance in the second set, but Taft continued to find openings in the defense. The Cougars recorded another 17 kills and secured the set 25-18 to take a two-set lead. Jazzahlei Satele paced the attack with 17 kills on .548 hitting for the match. She added 10 digs, two service aces and a solo block to finish with a team-high 20 points.
Taft closed the sweep with another clean performance in the third set. The Cougars hit .361 with 15 kills and only two attack errors, pulling away for a 25-16 win. Ku'uleimokihana Manaois finished with 11 kills without an error and hit .688. She also had an ace and two total blocks, accounting for 13.5 points.
Vienna Perier directed the offense with 23 assists while contributing four kills, three aces and 11 digs. Railye-Marie Makainai-Kon added 15 assists, and Jadalynn Satele led Taft with 13 digs to go with five kills and an ace. Havi Valdez contributed seven kills, while Shylah Pulu-Havi Valdez recorded five kills and two solo blocks. As a team, the Cougars finished with eight aces, 51 digs and five total blocks.
Taft returns home to face Ohlone College on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, at 12 p.m.
