Taft Rallies From Two-Goal Deficit to Earn 3-3 Draw at Allan Hancock

Taft College erased a two-goal halftime deficit with three goals in 5 minutes, 9 seconds before a penalty kick at 90:00 left the Cougars with a 3-3 draw against Allan Hancock College on Friday in Santa Maria. After the late equalizer, Taft nearly reclaimed the lead with one attempt saved and another striking the crossbar before the match ended.
Allan Hancock built its 2-0 halftime advantage on goals from Juan Zarate at 15:48 and Ernesto Juarez at 28:05. Jesse Sandoval assisted on the second goal. Taft regrouped at halftime and turned the match around with a concentrated attacking surge midway through the second half.
Ian Menjivar started the comeback by converting a penalty kick at 63:49. Just 2:10 later, Ian Soto scored from a Ian Menjivar assist to pull the Cougars even. Ian Menjivar then made a second penalty kick at 68:58, completing the rapid three-goal run and giving Taft a 3-2 lead. Ian Menjivar finished with two goals and an assist while taking six shots, and Ian Soto placed both of their attempts on goal.
Taft protected the advantage deep into the match. Goalkeeper Noah Rosales, who made two saves in 45 minutes, stopped a header at 88:08 to keep the Cougars in front. Carlos Paternina converted Allan Hancock's penalty kick at 90:00, but Taft immediately pushed for a winner. Taft Brayden Brayden Rivera had an attempt saved, and another Cougars shot hit the crossbar at the same timestamp.
The teams finished even with 12 shots apiece. Taft put six attempts on goal, earned six corner kicks and converted both of its penalties. The draw moved the Cougars to 1-0-2, while Allan Hancock moved to 1-1-1. Taft returns home to face LA Mission on Tuesday, Sep. 8, 2026, at 4:00 PM PDT.
