Taft Volleyball Sweeps De Anza, Outlasts San Joaquin Delta in Doubleheader

Taft College completed a two-win Friday doubleheader Sept. 25, sweeping De Anza College 3-0 before defeating host San Joaquin Delta College 3-2. The Cougars beat De Anza 25-10, 25-10, 25-22 in the neutral-site opener at Delta, then closed the day with a 16-25, 25-20, 25-18, 22-25, 15-10 victory over #8 State ranked San Joaquin Delta.
Taft controlled the first match from the opening set, hitting .429 in a 25-10 win before taking the second by the same score. De Anza made the third set more competitive, but the Cougars secured a 25-22 victory to finish the sweep. Taft hit .289 with 35 kills, eight aces, 56 digs and seven blocks while limiting De Anza to a .019 hitting percentage.
Jazzahlei Satele led the opener with 11 kills and no attack errors, hitting .440 while adding 15 digs and an ace. Jadalynn Satele contributed seven kills on .300 hitting and 10 digs. Teihanni Tafisi delivered four of Taft’s eight aces and collected 11 digs, while Shylah Pulu-Havi Valdez finished with five kills and four blocks. Vienna Perier had 16 assists, four kills, nine digs and two blocks, and Railye-Marie Makainai-Kon added 15 assists.
The second match required a comeback and a decisive fifth-set response. After San Joaquin Delta won the opener 25-16, Taft answered with consecutive set victories, 25-20 and 25-18, to take a 2-1 lead. The hosts forced a fifth set by winning the fourth 25-22, but the Cougars produced nine kills without an attack error in the deciding set. Taft hit .265 in the fifth and claimed the match with a 15-10 victory.
Jazzahlei Satele again paced the attack, recording 23 kills on .328 hitting with 20 digs and a solo block. Jadalynn Satele supplied 16 kills, hit .318 and led the Cougars with 25 digs. Ku'uleimokihana Manaois added nine kills, two aces and three blocks, while Shylah Pulu-Havi Valdez had six kills and four solo blocks. Perier directed the offense with 28 assists and also contributed six kills, nine digs and an ace.
Taft finished the five-set match with 64 kills, 97 digs, eight aces and 10 blocks while hitting .234. Tafisi recorded 20 digs, nine assists and two aces, and Makainai-Kon had 12 assists, 12 digs and two aces. The Cougars next play on the road against Porterville at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2026.
