Taft Volleyball Sweeps Folsom Lake, Rallies Past Hartnell for Doubleheader Wins

SALINAS, Calif. - Taft College completed a winning doubleheader Friday, sweeping Folsom Lake 3-0 before rallying from an opening-set loss to defeat Hartnell 3-1. The Cougars won six of seven sets across the two matches, taking the opener 25-10, 25-16, 25-14 and closing the day with a 20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-18 victory at Hartnell College.
Taft controlled the first match with efficient attacking and pressure from the service line. The Cougars hit .321 with 34 kills against nine attack errors while collecting 10 aces, 44 digs and five total blocks. After opening with a 15-point win, Taft continued to set the pace with nine- and 11-point victories to complete the three-set sweep.
Jadalynn Satele led the Cougars in the opener with nine kills, a .368 hitting percentage and 10.5 points. Jazzahlei Satele added seven kills on .375 hitting, nine digs and two aces, while Vienna Perier supplied five kills, 19 assists, eight digs, two aces and a solo block. Ku'uleimokihan Manaois contributed four kills and a team-high three aces, and Havi Valdez finished with six kills while hitting .364.
Hartnell interrupted Taft’s momentum by taking the opening set of the second match 25-20, but the Cougars answered with a 25-20 win to even the match. Taft then captured the closest set of the day 25-22, moving ahead 2-1 before finishing the comeback with a 25-18 fourth-set victory. The Cougars produced 49 kills, 52 assists, 88 digs, eight aces and 14 total blocks in the four-set match.
Jazzahlei Satele delivered a strong all-around performance against Hartnell, leading Taft with 16 kills and a team-high 25 digs while adding two aces. Perier recorded 10 kills, 29 assists, 12 digs, one solo block and four block assists. Manaois hit .429 with seven kills, two aces, three solo blocks and three block assists, giving the Cougars a consistent presence at the net.
Taft also received eight kills, 16 digs and two solo blocks from Jadalynn Satele. Railye-Marie Makainai-Kon distributed 19 assists and served four aces, while Teihanni Tafisi collected 20 digs.
The Cougars will return home to face Allan Hancock College at 5 on p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9.
