Taft Women's Soccer Blanks Madera 1-0 Behind First-Half Team Goal

TAFT, Calif. - Taft College converted the match's decisive chance in the first half and protected the lead through the final whistle, defeating Madera 1-0 in conference play Friday. The victory gave the Cougars a shutout on their home field and was secured by the only goal of the match.
The goal was credited to the Taft team, with no individual scorer or assist listed. It sent the Cougars into halftime with a 1-0 advantage, and the score remained unchanged through the second half as Taft's defense prevented Madera from finding an equalizer.
Madera goalkeeper Julianna Sophea Reyes kept the margin at one by making three saves over 90 minutes. Taft did not add to its lead after the break, but the Cougars continued to defend the one-goal edge and completed the clean sheet without needing a recorded goalkeeper save.
The closely contested conference match also produced one yellow card for each side. Yaila Ornelas received Taft's booking, while Jizelle Garcia was shown Madera's yellow card. Neither team received a red card.
Taft will remain home to face Porterville at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026. The Cougars will look to build on a disciplined defensive performance that turned one first-half goal into a conference victory.
