Oliver Stevens Sets Records and Raises the Standard at The Dalles

Brian Stevens | The Dalles High School | Oct 8, 2026

Oliver Stevens stands out as both a record-setting point guard and a student body president at The Dalles High School, pairing basketball achievement with a commitment to serving others. He also tutors teammates and fellow students. For teammates, Stevens brings the kind of confidence that makes any opponent feel beatable, while opposing coaches recognize a competitor whose character matches the talent.

Stevens began building that basketball legacy as a sophomore starter in 2024-25, setting the school’s single-season assists record with 122. He averaged 21.8 points per game and became the only player in conference history to lead in both scoring and assists. That balance of creating shots and finishing them established Stevens as more than a scorer, giving teammates a point guard who could deliver the ball as well as take over offensively.

As a junior in 2025-26, Stevens broke the 4A single-season scoring record with 627 points and averaged 25.1 points per game, the second-highest scoring average on record. He also recorded 144 assists and the second-highest combined points-and-assists production in Oregon history. Stevens shot 56% from the field, 42% from 3-point range and 44% from beyond 25 feet. The signature outburst was 56 points in 24 minutes on 21-of-25 shooting, including 7-of-8 from 3-point range. Other explosive stretches included 25 points in six minutes on the road and 29 points in 11 minutes at home. He has over 1200 points & 300 assists in his career.

Stevens finished the junior season with one 50-point game, three 40-point games and seven 30-point games, becoming the school’s only player to average more than 20 points in two seasons. Recognition included Tri-Valley League MVP, first-team All-State, first-team all-conference and Seaside tournament MVP honors. Stevens also earned OSAA Athlete of the Week and CGN Athlete of the Week recognition, along with school honors as winter athlete of the year and boys basketball MVP. In 2026, he added an international achievement, winning a gold medal with their USA team in Spain.

Away from basketball, Stevens is on pace to become valedictorian this year and has completed more than 1,000 hours of community service. Four years in leadership, membership in the National Honors Society and mentoring young people in the community extend that commitment beyond the team. Stevens also enjoys bantering with opposing coaches during and after games. Those coaches have offered the head coach a compliment that reaches beyond the scoreboard: “You have a good player and a better young man.”

Stevens hopes to attend USC or Syracuse to study journalism and broadcasting. That ambition points toward a future beyond playing basketball, with an academic path focused on telling stories and communicating with an audience. For now, college aspirations sit alongside the pursuit of valedictorian honors and the responsibilities of student body president.
