GROVEPORT, Ohio - Tree of Life Christian School battled through five sets Tuesday night and emerged with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Madison Christian. The Trojans answered each challenge in the back-and-forth match, closing the night with a commanding 15-6 fifth-set win after set scores of 24-26, 25-10, 23-25, 25-20 and 15-6.
The opening set established the competitive tone. Tree of Life pushed Madison Christian beyond the standard 25-point finish but came up just short, 26-24. The Trojans responded emphatically in the second set, controlling play throughout a 25-10 victory that evened the match and restored their momentum.
Madison Christian moved back in front by taking another tight set, 25-23, in the third. With the match on the line, Tree of Life delivered a determined fourth-set response. The Trojans secured a 25-20 win, forcing the decisive fifth set and giving themselves a chance to finish a resilient road performance.
Libby Homkes powered the Tree of Life attack with 25 kills, consistently providing an offensive option across the five sets. Megan Donnally directed that attack with 45 assists, helping the Trojans produce the offense needed to recover twice from a one-set deficit.
Tree of Life also received important contributions from the service line, back row and net. Abby Sanders recorded five aces and anchored the defense with 22 digs. Klark Wilkinson and Allie Coleman supplied four blocks apiece, giving the Trojans eight combined blocks from the duo during the hard-fought match.
After four sets filled with momentum swings and narrow margins, the Trojans saved their most decisive push for last. Tree of Life took charge of the fifth set and finished the 15-6 victory with the poise and energy needed to complete an impressive five-set triumph.
