Tree of Life Christian School earned a gritty 3-1 volleyball victory over Whetstone on Wednesday night, beating the Braves 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 27-25. Even while shorthanded, the Trojans battled through a competitive match and delivered the kind of balanced effort that showed both resilience and depth.

The Trojans set the tone by beating Whetstone in a tight opening set, 25-23, then regrouped quickly after the Braves answered with a 25-22 win in the second. Tree of Life took control in the third set with a 25-19 decision, using its front-row presence to create separation. The fourth set was the most dramatic of the night, and the Trojans finished strong in extra points, closing out the match with a 27-25 win.

Tree of Life's work at the net was a major difference-maker. Taylor Chou and Jay Payne each delivered 15 kills, giving the Trojans steady attacking production throughout the match. Defensively, Pascal Geiss led a strong blocking effort with six blocks, while Sam Kutnow and Micah Smith added five blocks apiece. That combination helped slow Whetstone's attack and gave the Trojans crucial momentum in several long rallies.

The victory carried extra weight because the Trojans were missing a few players, yet still found a way to control key stretches of the match. Instead of fading, Tree of Life responded with energy and discipline, especially after dropping the second set. The team turned that response into a strong third set and then showed composure again when the fourth set tightened late.

Wins like this tend to energize a team, and Wednesday's result gave the Trojans plenty to celebrate. Tree of Life combined timely offense, consistent blocking and determined effort to finish off a solid road win over Whetstone, punctuating the night by holding firm in the closing points of that 27-25 fourth set.

To add to the celebration, the team ended the night by signing happy birthday to Taylor Chou.

The Trojans close out their week with another game on the road Thursday, April 23 against Grandview Heights.
