Trojans Finish Third at Division III Sectional as Burns Qualifies for Districts
MARYSVILLE, Ohio - Tree of Life Christian School exceeded expectations with a third-place finish in the eight-team Division III boys sectional golf tournament Tuesday, Sept. 22, while Garrison Burns secured an individual spot in the district tournament with a round of 83.
The Trojans entered the sectional rated sixth among the eight teams but climbed three positions above that projection. Their third-place showing also surpassed the team's goal for the tournament and capped a strong performance against the sectional field.
Burns led Tree of Life's individual effort, navigating the sectional course in Marysville to post the Trojans' top reported score. His 83 was low enough to earn individual qualification for the District Tournament competition on Thursday October 1st at Turnberry Golf course in Pickerington.
The tournament began at 9 a.m. under overcast skies. The temperature was 59 degrees at the scheduled start, with winds at 8 mph and a forecast high of 64, adding another factor for players to manage throughout the round. The course was very wet and challenging.
Tree of Life's team result reflected a performance well above its pre-tournament rating, moving the Trojans from sixth in the projected order to third in the final standings. Burns will now carry the Trojans into the district tournament after earning advancement with his 83.
