Tree of Life Christian School battled through five intense sets Tuesday afternoon, defeating Shekinah Christian School 3-2 in Columbus. The Trojans recovered from an opening-set loss and delivered a decisive finish, winning 19-25, 25-18, 25-23, 20-25, 15-6. With the gym running hot, Tree of Life relied on steady serving pressure, determined defense and a balanced attack to secure the victory.
After Shekinah claimed the first set 25-19, the Trojans answered immediately. Tree of Life turned the match with a 25-18 victory in the second set, then came through in a tight third set, 25-23, to move ahead 2-1. Shekinah responded with a 25-20 win in the fourth, sending the back-and-forth match to a deciding fifth set.
The Trojans saved their strongest set for the finish. Tree of Life controlled the decisive frame 15-6, closing the match with the consistency and composure needed to slow Shekinah’s strong offense. The nine-point margin in the fifth reflected the Trojans’ ability to reset after the fourth set and execute with the match on the line.
Libby Homkes powered the Tree of Life attack with 30 kills, while Allie Coleman added 21 kills and made an impact at the net with five blocks. Klark Wilkinson delivered an efficient performance, recording a .381 hitting percentage without an error. Megan Donnallly directed the offense with 67 assists, helping the Trojans maintain their attacking rhythm throughout the five-set contest.
Tree of Life also found important contributions from the service line and back row. Abby Sanders recorded three aces as the Trojans applied consistent serving pressure, while Emily Thorne anchored the defensive effort with 41 digs. Those performances helped Tree of Life extend rallies, create additional attacking opportunities and withstand Shekinah’s push to force a fifth set.
The victory showcased the Trojans’ resilience from beginning to end. After falling behind in the match and later seeing Shekinah force a deciding set, Tree of Life responded each time with confidence. The 15-6 closing set provided an emphatic finish to a demanding evening and a five-set win built on teamwork, defense and sustained pressure.
