Tree of Life Christian School earned a 2-1 victory over Ross County Christian Academy on Monday night, bouncing back after a tough opening set to take the match 19-25, 25-22, 15-8.
The Trojans showed resilience from the start. Tree of Life came out strong in the first set and built an early lead, but Ross County Christian Academy closed well and stole the opener, 25-19. The response was impressive. The Trojans jumped ahead quickly again in the second set, this time doing enough to protect the advantage and even the match with a 25-22 win.
The deciding third set was Tree of Life at its best. The Trojans looked, as the team summary described it, like a well-oiled machine. The offense found its rhythm, the block tightened up at the net, and Tree of Life pulled away for a convincing 15-8 finish to seal the match.
Calvin Spitznagle led the way with a big front-row performance, finishing with 17 kills after being named conference Player of the Year earlier in the night. Jay Payne added eight kills to give the Trojans another steady attacking option, and Tree of Life consistently found points when it needed them most in the final two sets.
The setting helped drive that turnaround. Jordan Barnett distributed 14 assists, while Sam Kutnow added 12 assists as the Trojans kept the offense balanced and active across the net. Tree of Life also delivered a strong team blocking performance, a key factor in slowing Ross County Christian Academy and taking control of the match as it wore on.
For the Trojans, the win was a showcase of poise and growth. After letting the first set slip away, Tree of Life regrouped, trusted its front row, and finished the night with its strongest volleyball in the third set, an encouraging sign for a team finding momentum at the right time.
