Tree of Life Christian School’s boys volleyball team bowed out Thursday night with a 3-0 loss to No. 2 seed Archbishop Carroll, but the Trojans delivered a spirited effort that showed plenty of resolve. Carroll won by set scores of 25-11, 25-21, 25-18 at Archbishop Carroll in Dayton.

After a slow opening set against Carroll’s quick offense, the Trojans settled in and made the match far more competitive. Tree of Life matched pace much more effectively in the second set, battling through longer rallies and forcing the hosts to earn nearly every point on the way to a 25-21 finish. The stronger response gave the Trojans a chance to show the poise and toughness that carried them through the season.

Tree of Life also flashed that resilience in the third set. With the Trojans facing an 18-8 deficit, Jaeaun Payne ignited a comeback bid with a seven-point serving run that helped swing momentum and pull the team back into the set. The rally did not fully erase the gap, but it underscored how hard Tree of Life continued to compete even with the match hanging in the balance.

Calvin Spitznagle turned in one of the Trojans’ top all-around performances, handling 31 serve receives while also finishing with 10 kills. Jordan Barnett paced the offense with 10 assists, and Sam Kutnow added seven assists as Tree of Life worked to keep its attack moving under pressure. Those contributions helped the Trojans stay aggressive and find stretches of offensive rhythm against one of the area’s top teams.

Even in defeat, Tree of Life left a strong impression. The Trojans made Archbishop Carroll earn its tournament victory, and the night’s most memorable moment came after the final point, when Tree of Life joined Carroll in prayer and wished the Patriots well in the rest of their postseason run. It was a fitting finish, one that reflected both the competitive spirit and the character of the Trojans program.
