Trojans Stay Aggressive in Four-Set Battle With Genoa Christian

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Tree of Life Christian School battled through a hot gym and several injuries before falling to Genoa Christian Academy in four sets Tuesday, 22-25, 25-15, 18-25, 23-25. The Trojans answered an opening-set loss with a commanding second-set victory and continued pushing Genoa through a tightly contested finish.

After Genoa beat the Trojans 25-22 in the first set, Tree of Life delivered its strongest response of the match. The Trojans kept their offense aggressive, found a steady rhythm and rolled to a 25-15 win that evened the match at one set apiece. Genoa regained the advantage with a 25-18 result in the third, but Tree of Life remained within striking distance throughout a fourth set decided by only two points.

The Trojans received a reliable performance from the service line as Megan Donnally embraced the leadoff server role. She put 16 serves in play, recorded three aces and committed no service errors. That consistency helped Tree of Life create offensive opportunities while navigating the difficult conditions inside the gym.

Tree of Life also showed determination in serve receive and attack. Abby Sanders handled 28 serve receives and averaged a 2.07 serve-receive rating. Beverly Adkins-Cabrera hit .500 in the middle, while Libby Homkes took 50 swings and established herself as a trustworthy attacking option. Their work helped the Trojans remain aggressive rather than retreat when Genoa applied pressure.

The setters kept the offense moving across four sets. Megan Donnally distributed 18 assists, and Kendra Luyombya stepped in late to add seven assists for the Trojans. At the net, Klark Wilkinson recorded six blocks and Allie Coleman added five, giving Tree of Life an active defensive presence against Genoa's attack.

Although Genoa secured the match, Tree of Life's 23-point effort in the fourth set reflected the team's persistence. The Trojans overcame the heat, adjusted through injuries and finished just two points shy of forcing a deciding fifth set, giving the program several encouraging performances to carry forward.
