Worthington Christian defeated Tree of Life Christian School 3-1 on Tuesday night, winning 19-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21 in a match that began with a celebratory senior-night atmosphere and an impressive opening set from the Trojans.
Before the first serve at Tree of Life Christian School, the Trojans honored their seven seniors with a beach-themed ceremony, setting a joyful tone for the evening. That energy carried straight into the match. Tree of Life came out sharp in the first set and stayed in front throughout, controlling the action early and taking a 25-19 win. The Trojans looked confident in serve-receive and attack, and the home side used that fast start to put Worthington Christian on its heels.
The rest of the night was tighter. In each of the final three sets, Tree of Life was able to jump ahead, but Worthington Christian answered each time and flipped the momentum late. The second set slipped away 25-22, and the visitors followed with two more 25-21 wins in the third and fourth sets. Even in defeat, the Trojans showed plenty of fight, staying competitive deep into every set and forcing long rallies as the match tightened.
Taylor Chou and Calvin Spitznagle led the Tree of Life attack with strong offensive nights. Chou finished with 15 kills and a .256 hitting percentage, while Spitznagle added 17 kills and hit .250. Their production kept the Trojans within striking distance all evening, especially during the stretches when Tree of Life built early leads. Chou also made an impact from the service line with two aces.
The Trojans also got balanced distribution from their setters. Jordan Barnett recorded 20 assists, and Sam Kutnow added 18 assists while also serving up two aces. That combination helped Tree of Life spread the offense and create opportunities across the front row. The stat line reflected a team that generated chances and moments of control, even as Worthington Christian found the late pushes it needed to close sets.
For Tree of Life, the night carried more than the final result. It was a chance to celebrate a senior class, energize the home crowd, and show the kind of competitiveness the Trojans can bring when they are playing clean, aggressive volleyball. After such a strong first set and three closely contested ones after it, there was plenty for the Trojans to build on heading into the next match.
