Brau, Defense Lead Union Grove to 29-6 Senior Night Win Over Burlington
UNION GROVE, Wis. - Union Grove High School shut out Burlington in the second half to pull away for a 29-6 flag football victory Friday, Oct. 16, in Union Grove. The win came on senior night in the Broncos’ final home game of the year.
The Broncos had to regroup after Burlington stopped their opening offensive drive at the 1-yard line. Maren Brau later broke through with a long touchdown run, giving Union Grove a scoring response after that early missed opportunity. Brau finished with two long rushing touchdowns and made an equally substantial contribution on defense with three interceptions.
The game remained close at halftime before Union Grove tightened its defense after the break. Aubrey Ersing led the flag-pulling effort without missing a flag all night, helping the Broncos keep Burlington from adding to its six points. The second-half shutout gave Union Grove room to extend its advantage.
Katelyn Von Bergen contributed on both sides of the ball, catching a touchdown pass while delivering sacks and key flag pulls. Von Bergen’s rushing pressure complemented the coverage behind it, where senior Olivia Braun recorded three pass deflections. Braun also caught two extra-point conversions.
Union Grove completed its conference schedule in second place with a 4-1 league record, celebrating the victory beneath a double rainbow. The Broncos play next tomorrow at Bay Port High School in Green Bay for an opportunity to go to State.
