Broncos Fall to Burlington 3-0 Despite Knapp’s 11 Kills

UNION GROVE, Wis. - Union Grove High School fell to Burlington 3-0 in varsity boys volleyball Tuesday, September 29, in Burlington. The Broncos received contributions at the net, from the service line and in the back row, but Burlington won all three sets to complete the sweep.

Outside hitter Mason Knapp, wearing No. 7, recorded 11 kills for the Broncos. His double-digit performance gave Union Grove a scoring contribution from the outside attack, though those finishes were not enough to secure a set against Burlington. Knapp’s production highlighted the Broncos’ offensive effort in the three-set match.

Setter Asher Gonzales finished with 30 assists. The No. 4 setter supplied the distribution for Union Grove’s offense, adding another substantial individual total alongside Knapp’s 11 kills. Gonzales’ work setting up attacks was a central part of the Broncos’ production, even as Burlington claimed the match in straight sets.

In the back row, libero Cody Borchardt collected 21 digs. Wearing No. 1, he provided Union Grove with a double-digit defensive performance to complement its attacking contributions. His digs kept Burlington attacks in play and gave the Broncos chances to transition from defense into offense during the match.

Union Grove also generated points directly from its serving game. Defensive specialist Jason Andrews, No. 23, recorded four aces, contributing from the service line in addition to the Broncos’ kills. Andrews finished the match with four points on serves Burlington could not return successfully.
