Broncos Fall to Mukwonago 3-1. But together they fight against Cancer.
UNION GROVE, Wis. - Union Grove High School fell to Mukwonago 3-1 in a nonconference varsity volleyball match Thursday, October 1, in Union Grove. The Broncos recovered from a difficult opening set to take the second before the Indians won the final two sets.
The teams also joined together to support Michelle Foulk, who is fighting cancer. Foulk is the mother of former Union Grove varsity assistant coach Kyle Foulk. Together, the programs raised more than $1,500 to help support her fight, giving the evening a purpose beyond the competition.
Union Grove struggled to find its footing early in the first set but turned its play around in the second. While Mukwonago committed unforced errors, the Broncos also earned points through their own play to even the match at one set apiece. A closely contested third set went to the Indians, and Union Grove battled through the fourth but could not force a deciding fifth set.
Kaylin Brown contributed at the net with repeated block touches that forced Mukwonago to recycle its attacks. Behind the block, Karis Tucker and Ava Tempesta provided strong left-back defense. Their work helped the Broncos extend rallies and keep balls in play against the Indians.
Paitynn Parades and Piper Sendelbach supplied points from the service line, each producing multiple aces throughout the night. Serving pressure, net touches and back-row defense gave Union Grove contributions from across the lineup as the Broncos worked together through extended exchanges with Mukwonago..
