Broncos Pair Defensive Stops With Balanced Offense in 42-3 Win Over Elkhorn
UNION GROVE, Wis. - Union Grove High School turned repeated defensive stops and efficient offensive routes into a 42-3 flag football victory over Elkhorn on Friday, Oct. 9, in Elkhorn. Lexi Ystenes provided a calm presence at quarterback.
Olivia Braun and Leah Johnsen led a productive offensive night for the Broncos. Braun scored touchdowns from 20 yards and 1 yard out and added a one-point conversion. Johnsen caught a touchdown pass and contributed two one-point conversions, giving Union Grove another scoring option through the air and on conversion attempts.
Keirhan Peterson and Aubrey Bauer also contributed passing touchdowns, while Nicole Gutierrez-Lopez scored a rushing touchdown. Ystenes delivered standout throws and remained composed as the Broncos executed their routes efficiently. The offense found success both through the passing game and with Gutierrez-Lopez's scoring run.
The defense supplied stops and takeaways to complement that production. Aubrey Ersing, Kallie Whitely and Abby Burnett each recorded an interception, giving the Broncos three different players with picks. Katelyn Von Bergen led Union Grove in flag pulls as the defense limited Elkhorn to three points.
Cool conditions did not disrupt the Broncos' offensive execution. Union Grove combined scoring contributions from multiple players with a defense that repeatedly stopped Elkhorn's possessions. The Broncos play next against Burlington on Friday, Oct. 16.
