UNION GROVE, Wis. - Union Grove High School swept Tremper High School 3-0 in the first round of the WIAA state volleyball tournament Thursday, Oct. 22, in Union Grove. Serving powered the Broncos’ straight-set victory on their home court.

The Broncos made their service game the foundation of their attack, sending balls across the net that the Trojans struggled to return. That pressure challenged Tremper at the start of rallies, making the receiving side of the game a persistent obstacle for the visitors. Union Grove’s ability to create problems from the service line gave the Broncos a way to influence play before Tremper could execute its own attack.

Tremper battled defensively but could not turn that resistance into a set victory. The Trojans worked to keep balls in play, while the Broncos were quicker to execute and finish the match in three sets. Union Grove paired its serving pressure with the faster execution needed to get past an opponent that continued to compete on defense.

The opening-round result moved the Broncos through the first step of postseason play without needing a fourth set and secured their place in the next round. Union Grove plays next in the regional finals Saturday, Oct. 24.
