UNION GROVE, Wis. - Union Grove High School tied for second place at the Southern Lakes Conference girls tennis tournament Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Lake Geneva, with Emma Santarelli and the doubles team of Ruby Christiansen and Bella Cerfus reaching championship matches. All seven Broncos positions finished among the top four in the eight-team conference.

Emma Santarelli finished second at No. 3 singles after winning her first two matches. She defeated Burlington in the quarterfinals and Wilmot in the semifinals to earn a place in the championship match against Elkhorn. The runner-up finish left her with a 25-5 record, giving Union Grove its highest singles finish of the tournament.

At No. 3 doubles, Christiansen and Cerfus opened with a victory over Wilmot before defeating Waterford in a third-set tiebreaker in the semifinals. It was the third time this season the Broncos pair had beaten Waterford in a third-set tiebreaker. Christiansen and Cerfus then fell to Elkhorn in the championship match, finishing second with a 24-5 record.

Ada Santarelli and Lila Elsbernd added a third-place finish at No. 2 doubles. They defeated Beloit in their opening match before losing to Elkhorn, then returned to the court to beat Burlington in the third-place match. Their two tournament victories brought their record to 22-8 and gave Union Grove a third top-three finish across its seven positions.

The Broncos also had three fourth-place finishes in singles, with Lorelei Nelson at No. 1, Brooke Spang at No. 2 and Allison Wolf at No. 4. Those results meant every Union Grove singles player placed in the top half of the conference field. Morgan Stewart and Brooke Bournoville completed the team's doubles results with a fourth-place finish at No. 1.
