Broncos Turn Goal-Line Stand Into 40-18 Win Over Badger
UNION GROVE, Wis. - Union Grove High School turned an opening goal-line stand into a strong start on both sides of the ball, defeating Badger 40-18 in flag football Friday, October 2, in Union Grove. The Broncos stopped Badger at the 1-yard line on the game's opening defensive possession, then launched their offense with Maren Brau's 40-yard touchdown run.
That early sequence gave the Broncos two immediate highlights: a defensive stop with Badger threatening to score and a long scoring run to begin their offensive effort. Brau contributed on both sides of the ball, adding an interception to go with the touchdown. The opening stand and Brau's run set the tone for a performance that featured contributions throughout the lineup.
Lexi Ystenes led the passing attack with three touchdown passes and added a rushing touchdown, giving Union Grove scoring production through the air and on the ground. Keirhan Peterson scored two touchdowns, while Olivia Braun also reached the end zone. Peterson and Braun each added a 2-point conversion, helping the Broncos turn their scoring opportunities into additional points.
The defense supplied more than the opening stop. Leah Johnsen intercepted a pass, joining Brau in producing takeaways against Badger. Johnsen, Aubrey Ersing and Olivia also delivered tough defensive play. Their contributions complemented the offense's touchdown production and helped Union Grove finish with a 22-point margin.
With Ystenes directing the offense, Peterson scoring twice and Brau making plays on offense and defense, the Broncos had several standout efforts to celebrate in the victory. The Broncos will look to bounce back in their next contest on Friday, October 16, against an opponent to be announced.
