First-Play Strike Sparks Union Grove’s 49-19 Win Over Burlington

Craig McClelland | Union Grove High School | Sep 17, 2026

UNION GROVE, Wis. - Quinn Schultz connected with Justin Williamson for a 65-yard touchdown on the first play of the game, igniting an explosive first quarter that carried Union Grove to a 49-19 Southern Lakes Conference victory over previously unbeaten Burlington on Friday night at Union Grove High School.

Williamson added another game-changing play on special teams, returning a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. His two long scores helped the Broncos build the large early advantage they protected with a productive rushing attack and a strong defensive effort.

Schultz completed 3 of 5 passes for 91 yards and the touchdown to Williamson. He also rushed for 36 yards and a score, giving Burlington another threat to contain. Jonte Everett led Union Grove on the ground with 107 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries, while Nathan Tucker added 95 yards and two touchdowns on nine attempts.

Everett and Tucker gave the Broncos consistent production after the fast start, combining for 202 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Their work helped Union Grove control the game and keep pressure off the passing attack while Burlington tried to cut into the early deficit.

The Broncos also received disruptive performances from Bennett Fletcher and JJ Fletcher. Bennett Fletcher recorded a team-high nine tackles, including two for loss, while JJ Fletcher finished with seven tackles and two for loss. That defensive pressure helped Union Grove limit Burlington to 19 points and close out a convincing conference win.

Union Grove will return to action on the road against Wilmot Union at 7 p.m. CDT Friday, Sept. 18.
