Keevers Leads Union Grove to 40-Stroke Victory Over Elkhorn

Union Grove placed five golfers among the top six finishers and defeated Elkhorn 183-223 in a varsity match Sept. 15 at Ives Grove's Red Nine. Senior Alana Keevers led the Broncos with a match-low 38, earning medalist honors by six strokes.

Junior Chelsea Haertel gave Union Grove the top two individual scores by shooting a 44. Keevers and Haertel combined to create an early 14-stroke advantage over Elkhorn's top two golfers, providing the foundation for the Broncos' 40-stroke team victory.

Senior Aubrey Young added a 50 to finish fourth overall, while sophomore Adeline Dobrinska shot a 51 and placed fifth. Their rounds completed Union Grove's four counting scores of 38, 44, 50 and 51. The narrow 13-stroke range among those four scores helped the Broncos post the day's lowest team total.

Junior Abby Waterworth carded a 53 as Union Grove's fifth golfer and finished sixth overall. Although Waterworth's score did not count toward the team total, it gave the Broncos another round below all but one of Elkhorn's scores and secured five of the first six individual positions.

Senior Clara McGee paced Elkhorn with a 48 and finished third overall. Lily Storlie followed with a 56, Brielle Loomer shot 57, and Khloe Garlock and Lizzi Guzman each recorded a 62. Elkhorn's four counting rounds were 48, 56, 57 and 62.

Keevers' medalist round and Haertel's runner-up finish separated Union Grove at the top of the leaderboard, while Young, Dobrinska and Waterworth supplied the depth that turned the Broncos' strong individual showing into a decisive team win.
