St. Louis University High Blanks Union Grove 2-0 in First Meeting
UNION GROVE, Wis. - St. Louis University High scored twice and kept Union Grove off the board Saturday, Sept. 12, handing the Broncos a 2-0 loss in their first-ever meeting with a team from Missouri. The match was played in Union Grove, with the two unanswered goals and St. Louis University High's shutout proving decisive.
Union Grove faced a difficult test against an opponent it had never seen before. St. Louis University High controlled enough of the match to create the scoring separation, while its defense prevented the Broncos from finding the goal needed to shift the pressure or cut into the deficit.
The Broncos worked collectively to keep the margin at two goals, limiting the damage despite being outmatched during stretches of the contest. Union Grove's defensive effort gave the team opportunities to stay within reach, but St. Louis University High answered each Broncos push by protecting its penalty area and preserving the clean sheet.
Union Grove finished without a goal for the first time in the matchup's brief history, while St. Louis University High left Wisconsin with the victory. The result provided the Broncos with an early measuring point against unfamiliar competition and a chance to build from the defensive stretches that kept the final margin from growing beyond 2-0.
