Union Grove used a dominant defensive effort, including a shutout over the entire second half, to cruise past South Milwaukee 58–8 on Saturday in South Milwaukee.
Camryn Smith powered the Broncos’ offense, pouring in 29 points to go along with seven steals and six rebounds as Union Grove built an early lead and never looked back. The Broncos pressured South Milwaukee from the opening tip, turning turnovers into transition opportunities and setting the tone for a one-sided road victory.
Union Grove’s defensive intensity only increased as the game went on. After limiting South Milwaukee’s looks in the first half, the Broncos completely locked things down after halftime, holding the hosts scoreless over the final two quarters. The sustained pressure on the ball and strong help defense kept South Milwaukee from finding any rhythm offensively.
While Smith led the scoring effort, the Broncos received key contributions throughout the lineup. Hannah Nowakowski added 10 points, giving Union Grove another consistent perimeter threat and helping stretch the defense. Ball movement was a strength throughout the night, highlighted by Natalie Hammes, who finished with five assists and helped initiate the offense against South Milwaukee’s half-court sets.
Union Grove also controlled the glass, limiting second-chance opportunities and creating extra possessions. Smith’s six rebounds were matched by a strong effort from Abby Waterworth, who pulled down six rebounds of her own. The Broncos’ work on the boards helped fuel their transition game and supported the shutout performance over the final two quarters.
With the win, Union Grove not only showcased a high-powered scoring option in Smith but also reaffirmed its defensive identity by holding South Milwaukee to just eight points for the game and none after halftime. The performance provides momentum as the Broncos move deeper into their schedule, carrying both confidence and a blueprint built on pressure defense, balanced contributions, and control of the backboard.
