Union Grove advances 8 individuals and Two Relays at WIAA Division 1 Badger Regional

Union Grove competed at the WIAA Division 1 Badger Regional, Tuesday night. The Broncos scored 56 points on the girls side and 44 on the boys side, with the girls placing sixth, the boys eighth and the program finishing with one event title.

The first result of the night came in the Girls 4x800 Meter Relay, where Union Grove won in 10:29.85. The relay consisted of Alyssa Simpson, Gianna Chiapete, Jenna James, Camryn Smith, gave the Broncos their regional championship and set the tone for a strong girls showing in the distance events. Union Grove also picked up a runner-up finish in the Girls 800 Meter Run, where Camryn Smith clocked 2:25.01 for second place.

The Broncos added more points on the track in the sprint and hurdle races. Ellie Gajewski finished fourth in the Girls 100 Meter Dash in 12.75 and Cassie Klepp finished fourth in the Girls Long Jump at 16-08.75. In the relays, the Girls 4x100 Meter Relay of Ellie Gajewski, Brooke Dummer, Abby Johnson and Cassie Klepp was second in 49.90, breaking their own school record set earlier this year.

On the boys side, Union Grove’s middle-distance group delivered one of the team’s strongest stretches. Abe Ackley finished second in the Boys 800 Meter Run in 2:06.02, and Xander Stulo followed closely in third at 2:06.04, giving the Broncos a major points haul in the event. Parker Newland added another podium finish in the Boys 1600 Meter Run, placing third in 4:52.70.

Union Grove also scored in the field events on both sides. Malakai Hill placed second in the Boys Long Jump with a leap of 21-02.25, and Quinn Koepnick took second in the Boys Shot Put with a throw of 46-09.50.

The Broncos will next compete at Mukwonago at WIAA Sectional Meet, with the hopes of sending several athletes to state at UW-La Crosse.
