Eric Swanson | Union Grove High School | Apr 13, 2025

Union Grove High School's boys varsity golf team showcased a commendable performance during the Quad Invitational held on April 12, 2025, clinching 3rd place with a team total of 667 (+95) against tough opponents from Westosha Central, Badger, and Burlington. The two-day event saw the Broncos navigating the challenges of Hawk's View Golf Club in Lake Geneva on Friday, and the demanding layout of Goldeneye Golf Club on Saturday, under variable weather conditions. Cody Nelson led the way for Union Grove, delivering impressive rounds of 77 and 81, tying for 3rd in individual rankings. Cody Borchardt and Caiden Eichner also stood out by tying for 8th place, with Borchardt hitting a career-best 82 on Friday and following up with an 87. Consistency was the theme for Jack Ryan and Charlie McSorley, with Ryan posting scores of 87 and 90 on both days, and freshman McSorley shooting an impressive 82 in his high school debut. Coach's insights enhanced the significance of the team's achievements. 'This was a great tournament to see where we are at. On Friday, the whole team played well. Cody Nelson and Caden, our two long-time varsity members, really put together solid rounds, breaking 80 for the first time this year,' remarked the Broncos' coach. He also praised Cody Borchardt and Caleb Westrum for their steady play over the two days and the freshman trio of Charlie McSorley, Asher Wagner, and Carson Smith for their promising debut and overall performance. The Broncos look to carry this momentum into their next challenge at the SLC Major #2, scheduled for April 15, 2025, at Evergreen Golf Course in Elkhorn.
