BURLINGTON, Wis. - Union Grove captured the 2026 Racine County Invite championship by the narrowest of margins, scoring 28 points over two days of competition Sept. 11-12 to finish one point ahead of Prairie School. The Broncos scored at all seven positions in the eight-team tournament, combining depth throughout the lineup with championships at No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles.
Brooke Spang won the No. 2 singles bracket to provide one of Union Grove’s two individual titles. The Broncos also received three runner-up finishes in singles, with Lorelei Nelson placing second at No. 1, Emma Santarelli taking second at No. 3 and Allison Wolf finishing second at No. 4. Those results gave Union Grove points from each singles position and established the foundation for its team championship.
The decisive highlight came at No. 3 doubles, where Ruby Christiansen and Bella Cerfus rallied past Waterford in the championship match. After dropping the opening set 6-4, Christiansen and Cerfus answered with a 6-4 victory in the second set before taking the match tiebreak 10-7. Their comeback secured first place in the bracket and supplied critical points in a tournament decided by a single point.
Union Grove’s other doubles teams added important finishes. Ada Santarelli and Lila Elsbernd placed third at No. 2 doubles, while Morgan Stewart and Brooke Bournoville finished fifth in the No. 1 doubles bracket. With every singles player and doubles team contributing to the total, the Broncos remained in position to emerge from two hard-fought days as Racine County champions.
Prairie School finished second with 27 points, followed by Waterford with 25 and Racine Case with 16.5. Park/Horlick scored 11 points, Burlington had 7.5, Catholic Central finished with 0.5 and Racine St. Cats/Lutheran scored 0. Union Grove’s complete lineup proved to be the difference, capped by Spang’s singles championship and the three-set comeback from Christiansen and Cerfus.
