Union Grove Drops Conference Opener in Extras

A walk-off left Union Grove on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat to Westosha Central on Thursday. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the eighth when Joe Suokko singled, scoring one run. Union Grove jumped back into the lead in the top of the fifth inning after Kody Hage grounded into a fielder's choice, Tucker Katterhagen singled to the left side of the infield, and Leo Weist singled down the left field line, each scoring one run. Broncos committed an error, which helped Westosha Central tie the game at three in the bottom of the fifth. Jayden King took the loss for Union Grove . The pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out two and walking none. Cody Ashburn led things off on the hill for the Broncos. The starter surrendered five hits and three runs (one earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking one. Katterhagen, Hage, and Weist each drove in one run for Union Grove Varsity Broncos. Weist led Union Grove Varsity Broncos with two hits in four at bats. Union Grove Broncos welcome Westosha Central on Friday for their next game.
