Union Grove Falls 63-54 at Westosha Central Despite Schultz’s 27-Point Effort

Union Grove battled back from multiple second-half deficits but could not overcome a late Westosha Central surge, falling 63-54 on Saturday night at Westosha Central.

The Broncos struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the first half, as both teams traded baskets in a low-flow, back-and-forth opening 18 minutes. Westosha Central slowly carved out a slim edge and carried a 26-21 lead into halftime. Union Grove’s defense kept the game within reach, but offensive inconsistency prevented the Broncos from capitalizing on stops before the break.

Westosha Central came out of the locker room with energy, pushing its advantage to eight points early in the second half. Union Grove responded with its best stretch of the night, sparked by improved ball movement in transition and defensive activity. Four minutes into the second half, the Broncos had erased the deficit and pulled even at 34-34, shifting momentum and putting pressure back on the hosts.

The game remained tight as the second half wore on, with the teams deadlocked at 41-41 with seven minutes remaining. At that point, Westosha Central put together the decisive run, stringing together an 8-1 burst that created separation Union Grove could not fully close. The Broncos turned up the pressure, scrambling defensively and extending full-court to generate turnovers and quick looks, but they were unable to cut the margin to less than five down the stretch as Westosha Central closed out the nine-point win.

Senior guard Griffin Schultz powered the Union Grove offense, finishing with a game-high 27 points to go with seven rebounds. Forward Tyler Johnson delivered a stat-stuffing performance, adding eight points while leading Union Grove on the glass and defensively with 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Justin Williamson contributed six rebounds for the Broncos, helping Union Grove limit second-chance opportunities and ignite transition chances. Despite the loss, the Broncos’ resilience in erasing an eight-point second-half deficit and battling back to a tie highlighted the group’s competitiveness. The Broncos look to bounce back tomorrow against The Prairie School in a non-conference matchup.
