Union Grove High School could not overcome a decisive first-half surge by Kenosha Bradford on Tuesday night, falling 77-63 on the road despite a standout 25-point performance from Griffin Schultz.

The opening five minutes were tightly contested, with the Broncos trading baskets and playing Bradford even as the score sat tied at 11-11. From there, however, Bradford seized control with a 17-3 run over the next eight minutes, turning a deadlock into a 14-point advantage. That stretch defined the first half and sent Union Grove into the locker room facing a 16-point deficit.

Union Grove responded out of halftime with renewed energy, stringing together stops and more efficient possessions on offense. The Broncos trimmed the margin to single digits at 41-32 with about 15 minutes remaining, briefly shifting momentum and forcing Bradford to regroup. That run out of the break showcased Union Grove’s resilience and kept the game within reach early in the second half.

From that point on, though, Bradford slowly reasserted control. The hosts consistently knocked down shots, capitalized on turnovers and pushed the ball in transition. Union Grove struggled to contain backdoor cuts, leading to several high-percentage looks for Bradford. When the Broncos did secure a defensive stop, Bradford frequently extended possessions on the glass, finishing with 13 offensive rebounds that helped sustain its lead.

Offensively, Union Grove endured a difficult shooting night overall, which made each Bradford scoring run more damaging. Schultz did his part to keep the Broncos competitive, leading all Union Grove scorers with 25 points. Tyler Johnson added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, providing a strong interior presence at both ends. Cade Sherwood chipped in 7 points to supplement the scoring attack.

Despite the loss, the Broncos’ surge out of halftime highlighted the team’s ability to adjust and compete after a challenging first half. Union Grove will look to clean up turnovers, tighten its defense against cuts and limit second-chance opportunities as it moves deeper into the schedule and seeks to turn stretches of strong play into full-game consistency.
