Union Grove Finishes Third at Sectional With 348, Four Strokes Shy of State Berth

UNION GROVE, Wis. - Union Grove High School finished third with 348 strokes at the WIAA Division 1 Sectional 6 golf tournament Tuesday, Oct. 6, at The Broadlands GC, falling four strokes short of a team berth in the state tournament. Senior <PERSON_43> led the Broncos with a 74 and placed third individually, three strokes behind the co-medalists.
Westosha Central won the eight-team event with a 336, while Waukesha North/South/West secured second place with a 344. The top two teams advanced to state, leaving Union Grove one place outside the qualifying spots and 12 strokes behind the sectional champion. The Broncos finished nine strokes ahead of fourth-place Franklin.
Westosha Central senior <PERSON_45> Delost and Waukesha North/South/West junior <PERSON_44> Piacsek shared first place individually after each shot 71. <PERSON_43> delivered Union Grove's lowest round, finishing 12 strokes ahead of the Broncos' next counting score.
Junior <PERSON_38> Haertel placed ninth with an 86, giving Union Grove two finishers in the top 10. Junior <PERSON_29> added a 92 to finish 18th, and sophomore <PERSON_25> took 22nd with a 96. Those four rounds made up the Broncos' 348 total. Senior <PERSON_24> finished 23rd with a 97, which did not count toward the team score.
Franklin totaled 357, followed by Muskego in fifth with 359. Oak Creek placed sixth with 395, Racine Case finished seventh with 415 and Kenosha Indian Trail took eighth with 445.
Individual advancement provided a separate route to state, with the top three golfers outside the two qualifying teams earning berths. Alana was the top individual qualifier for next week's state tournament in Madison.
