KENOSHA, Wis. - Union Grove’s girls varsity team placed fourth overall, while the boys finished seventh against strong competition Saturday at the Rebel Invite. The Broncos delivered a solid collective effort at the UW-Parkside course despite entering the meet after a demanding week of practice.
Aila Johnson led the Union Grove girls with a time of 21 minutes, 11 seconds. Emma Schafer followed in 21:55, and Mila Johnson crossed in 22:06, giving the Broncos three leading finishers within 55 seconds of one another.
That compact group provided the foundation for the girls’ fourth-place team result. With less than a minute separating the Broncos’ top three runners, Union Grove used pack running to maintain its position in the field and limit the gaps between its scoring athletes. Emma Schafer and Mila Johnson finished only 11 seconds apart, an important sequence for the team standings.
Parker Newland paced the boys' varsity lineup with a team-best time of 17:38. Abe Ackley was next for Union Grove in 18:28, while Xander Stulo completed the Broncos’ leading trio in 18:45.
The boys also relied on close positioning through the middle of their lead group. Only 17 seconds separated Abe Ackley andXander Stulo, helping Union Grove consolidate places and secure seventh overall. Parker Newland’s sub-18-minute performance gave the Broncos a strong runner at the front of their lineup.
Clear skies and a temperature near 70 degrees greeted the field for the meet. Following a tough practice week, Union Grove responded with six highlighted varsity performances, steady pack spacing, and a pair of team finishes that provided a measure of the program’s progress against a competitive field.
