Union Grove Girls Win Conference Meet, Boys Place Second at Fox River Park

Union Grove’s girls varsity team placed first and the boys varsity squad finished second overall Tuesday, Sept. 15, as the Broncos delivered several strong finishes on a tough course at Fox River Park.

Aila Johnson led the girls with a runner-up finish in 21 minutes, 29 seconds. Mila Johnson crossed only four seconds later, placing third in 21:33. Their close finish gave Union Grove two runners near the front of the field and established the foundation for the girls’ team victory.

The Broncos continued to build their winning score deeper in the lineup. Aubree Krueger finished 11th in 22:35, and Sam Antonneau took 15th in 22:50. With the top four Union Grove finishers separated by 1:21, the girls combined front-running strength with the depth needed to secure first place.

Parker Newland paced the Union Grove boys, finishing third overall in 18:04. Abe Ackley added another top-five result, placing fifth in 18:24. Their performances put two Broncos among the first five runners across the line and helped keep Union Grove in contention for the team title.

The boys’ pack remained strong behind Newland and Ackley. Ethan Ross finished ninth in 18:54, while Xander Stulo followed two seconds later in 10th place at 18:56. Union Grove’s four listed finishers all placed in the top 10, with only 52 seconds separating Newland from Stulo, as the Broncos earned second place overall.

The results reflected a balanced day for Union Grove in partly cloudy, 63-degree conditions. The girls paired two top-three performances with solid supporting finishes to win the meet, while the boys used four top-10 efforts and tight pack running to claim runner-up honors on the demanding course.
