Union Grove High School Broncos Excel at SLC Conference Relays

Union Grove High School's Track and Field teams showcased their prowess at the SLC Conference Relays on April 22, hosted at Burlington High School. Both the boys' and girls' varsity teams faced intense competition from other schools in the SLC but emerged with remarkable results, demonstrating both skill and determination. The girls' team proved to be a formidable force, clinching first place in the 4x800 Relay, 3x300 Hurdle Relay, and 3x1600 Relay. This exceptional performance was bolstered by Alyssa Simpson, Jenna James, Camryn Smith, and Ashley Lamers in the 4x800 Relay; Mia Wilks, Evelyn Clasusen, and Brooke Dummer in the 3x300 Hurdle Relay; and once again, Alyssa Simpson alongside Sophia Matuszek and Gianna Chiapete in the 3x1600 Relay. Moreover, the girls excelled in field events, claiming the top spot in the Discus, Long Jump, and Pole Vault Relays thanks to the efforts of Breeya Katterhagen, Sam Geiss, Charlie Harmann, Cassie Klepp, Abby Johnson, Sofie Caruso, Ashley Lamers, Sophia Matuszek, and Brianna Konesko. Notably, Breeya Katterhagen set a new school record in the Discus with a throw of 117'5". The boys also displayed strong performances with a second place finish in the 4x800 Relay through the teamwork of Parker Newland, Asher Gonzales, Abe Ackley, and Xander Stulo, and achieved a first-place victory in the Pole Vault Relay with Sam Matuszek, Austin Polzin, and Cody Wegner. Coach remarked on the team's overall effort: "We had a very strong showing from all of the athletes that competed today," showcasing the evident pride in their performances. Looking ahead, the Broncos are set to compete next at Kenosha Bradford High School on April 26, where they will aim to continue their streak of excellent performances.
