Union Grove High School Broncos Face Setback in the Tournament of Champions
In a challenging showdown at the Tournament of Champions, the Union Grove High School Broncos girls varsity soccer team faced off against Belleville West at Bettendorf, Iowa on May 1, 2025. Despite a promising start and favorable weather conditions, the Broncos were unable to secure a win, falling to Belleville West with a final score of 1-4.
The match began with high spirits as senior Marley Busey quickly put the Broncos on the scoreboard with the first goal at the 9th minute. However, Belleville West responded with a penalty kick at the 34th minute, equalizing the score by halftime. The second half saw Belleville West increase their momentum, with additional goals at the 56th, 61st, and 69th minutes, sealing their victory.
Sam Antonneau, the goalie for Union Grove, had a busy day defending against Belleville's aggressive gameplay. The match witnessed key moments, including Busey's opening goal which initially gave the Broncos a competitive edge. Unfortunately, Belleville's penalty kick shifted the dynamics, leading to their subsequent goals.
The Broncos now look to rebound from this loss in their next encounter against Quincy High School (IL) at TBK Sports Complex on May 2, 2025. With a current record of 6-3, Union Grove High School aims to regroup and focus on their upcoming matches in the hopes of a stronger showing in the remainder of the tournament.
