Union Grove High School Broncos Kick Off Varsity Boys Soccer Season
As the new school year begins, the Union Grove High School Broncos are gearing up to launch their varsity boys soccer season under the guidance of Head Coach Sean Jung, who is entering his 15th season with the team. Following a strong performance last season with a final record of 13-4-4 and a 4th place finish in the Southern Lakes Conference, the Broncos are poised for another competitive run.
The Broncos faced a tough end to their previous season, losing in penalties to Nicolet in the WIAA Sectionals. This year, they'll be without key seniors Jackson Zimmerman, Tyler Hagen, and Ryan Lee, who graduated last spring. Despite these losses, the team looks promising with the return of significant players like Niall Hagen, Ethan Barsch, Cade Dobrinska, Dylan Fox, Finn Jacobs, Frank Zimmerman, and Owen Sheahan. These athletes will form the backbone of the Broncos this season, with an emphasis on a new defensive strategy.
Coach Jung expressed optimism about the team's outlook, emphasizing the importance of a newly formed back line. "We will have a very new back line this fall, so if we can gel quickly and stay organized, we should be very competitive," said Jung. The season opener promises to be a significant test for this new squad as they face off against Shoreland Lutheran High School on Tuesday, August 26th.
