Union Grove High School Broncos Secure 5th Place at Southern Lakes Conference Golf Tournament

In a challenging day at Rivermoor GC, the Union Grove High School Broncos boys varsity golf team battled narrow fairways and dense tree lines to secure 5th place in the Southern Lakes Conference Tournament on April 22, 2025. Amidst low 60s and partly sunny weather, the team posted a collective score of 349. Cody Nelson, a junior, led the Broncos with a score of 81. He bounced back from a tough stretch to deliver a strong performance on the back nine. Sophomore Jack Ryan matched his career-low with an 84, showcasing consistency throughout his round. Senior Caden Eichner finished with 91, while sophomore Cody Borchardt and senior Caleb Westrum each scored 93. Coach reflected on the challenges at Rivermoor GC, noting the difference from the team's home course. "Rivermoor tends to be a tough course for us. It is pretty narrow, with lots of trees, and smaller greens, which is far different from our home course. The key is to be able to hit your tee shot in the fairway, which Cody and Jack both did pretty well, but others struggled," the coach said. He praised Cody Nelson for overcoming a difficult front nine and lauded Jack Ryan's steady play. As they look to improve, the focus now turns to enhancing their short game with lessons from this tournament. Their next challenge will be at The Club at Lac La Belle on April 25, 2025, where they will compete in The MACC Fund Invite.
